Activation

To check the Windows activation status following your upgrade, use the following instructions.

  1. From the Windows 10 Start Menu, select Settings. The Settings window will be displayed.

  2. Select Update & security. The Update & Security window will be displayed.

  3. Select Activation from the list of options. The Activation window will be displayed.

    The Activation status should appear as:

    Windows is activated

    Alternatively, you can also view the Windows activation status from the System Properties window.

    At the bottom of the window, under Windows activation, the status should also appear as:

    Windows is activated

      Thanks for your comment. I’ll try to clarify this better in both my Upgrade and Install guides.

      There is actually a way of doing a clean install and still qualify for the free upgrade, but only when upgrading from media (i.e. not from the Get Windows 10 app). At the very last screen Ready to install before you initiate the Windows 10 upgrade, there is a Change what to keep link. If you click this link, and then select Nothing, you end up with an activated clean installation rather than an upgrade.
