Windows Update Settings

This option depends on how you intend to manage Windows Updates for servers in your environment. In Windows Server 2016, this setting defaults to Automatic (in previous version of Windows Server it was Manual).

  1. Type 5 and press Enter to change Windows Update Settings. A prompt asking Select Automatic or Manual updates will be display.
    Windows Update currently set to: Automatic
    
    Select (A)utomatic or (M)anual updates:
    Automatic
    1. Type A and press Enter to set updates to Automatic. Windows Update will be configured for Automatic updates.
      Enabling Automatic updates...

      A message stating Windows Update set to Automatic. System will check for and install updates every day at 3:00 AM will be displayed.

      Update Settings: Windows Update set to Automatic. System will check for and install update every day at 3:00 AM

      Windows Update set to Automatic. System will check for and install update every day at 3:00 AM.

    2. Click OK. The Main Menu will be displayed.
    Manual
    1. Type M and press Enter to set updates to Manual. Windows Update will be configured for Manual updates.
      Disabling Automatic updates...

      A message stating Windows Update set to Manual. System will never check for updates will be displayed.

      Update Settings: Windows Update set to Manual. System will never check for updates.

      Windows Update set to Manual. System will never check for updates.

    2. Click OK. The Main Menu will be displayed.
